Due to all these benefits, i.MX35’s GPU targets user interface acceleration by implementing an optimized OpenVG™ 1.1 pipeline in hardware. This is done with the Z160 GPU core from AMD, which is clocked at 133MHz and has a peak performance of 1 pixel/clock. In addition to OpenVG, i.MX35 also accelerates Microsoft’s GDI and some other low-level 2D APIs in the same versatile hardware. The Z160 GPU is focused on both accelerating vector graphics and drawing them at exceptional quality not possible with software rendering on an embedded processor. This hardware focus on vector graphics allows users to see better results with the i.MX35 than many other competing GPU solutions on the market that typically emulate the API on 3D hardware.
