2021 National Engineers Week Goes Digital, Remains Focused on STEAM and Community Outreach

National Engineers Week (N.E.W.) 2020 happened just before the world went on full lockdown due to COVID-19 last year. While things look different and a lot has happened in the past year, according to DiscoverE: “COVID-19 has laid bare the critical work of engineers in creating a world safe from pandemics, climate change, cyber-attacks, and other daunting global challenges.”

The same has been true for us here at DigiKey. We helped design ventilators, made sure many engineers and companies were able to get the parts they needed for their projects, and enabled students and makers to get creative at home.

Although things aren’t back to normal quite yet, and we feel the need to scale back some of our 2021 N.E.W. activities, here are a few things you can expect from us the week of February 22nd to encourage everyone to keep “Imagining Tomorrow”.

Tuesday 2/23 – Ask an Engineering Student Social Day

Check out our social feeds for pre-recorded videos from some of DigiKey’s University Ambassadors. We’ve asked them what they wish they knew before going into engineering.

Do you have other burning questions for our ambassadors? We’ll be opening up the forum for anyone to submit additional questions right from our social media.

Wednesday 2/24 – Ask an Influencer Social Day

We reached out to a few of our favorite DigiKey influencers and asked them to submit videos giving insight on topics including:

  • The best parts of being an engineer
  • On the flip side, the worst parts of being an engineer
  • Advice for someone entering the field
  • And many more

Thursday 2/25 – Girl Night Out 2021

As with most events right now, Girls Night Out is going virtual! Our engineers will be walking our local students through making a light and sound interactive painting. To complete the project, the girls will receive a micro:bit v2 and a strip of Neopixels.

Even though we have to be socially distant, we still want to be social! Please visit our social pages during National Engineers Week to interact with our ambassadors and influencers and to share your ideas of how you’re “Imagining Tomorrow”.
