The Atlas ESR-plus model ESR70, from Peak Electronic Design Limited, offers an easy testing method for measuring a capacitor’s equivalent series resistance, or ESR, which is a great indicator of a capacitor’s condition. By simply connecting the probes to a capacitor and pressing test, the Atlas ERS-plus provides various audible alerts giving the user an instant feedback of the measurement results with further detail shown on its screen. Users can also use this ESR meter in-circuit, thus eliminating the need for removing capacitors. And when testing capacitors out-of-circuit the device will also display the measured capacitance. Furthermore, when the capacitor under test is charged, the unit will automatically carry out a controlled discharge procedure before measuring the capacitance and ESR.
