The IP rating specifies the degree of protection against either solid objects or liquid. The IP code consists of two digits. The first digit describes the protection against solid objects and dust particles. The second digit specifies the protection against ingress of water. The higher the digit, the better the protection. The connector being discussed in this presentation features an IP rating of IP68, stating it is protected from dust ingression as well as from water ingression. This particular connector is protected to a pressure of 0.15 bar or 1.5 m water depth.
