ECH450 Series AC/DC Power Supplies for Industrial and Medical Use

XP Power’s ECH450 series AC/DC power supplies are designed to minimize size and maximize efficiency to facilitate integration into ever more compact equipment. The ECH450 range has medical approvals with 2 x MOPP (input to output), 1 x MOPP (input to ground), and 1 x MOPP (output to ground) making them suitable for BF applications. They also meet IEC/UL/EN62368-1 safety approval for information technology equipment. The full 450 W is available when force air-cooled with 250 W available in convection-cooled applications.

The ECH450 series are available in four mechanical versions: as an open frame or with a ventilated metal case (-C option) for either convection cooling or forced air cooling using 10 CFM of moving air; or enclosed with built-in fan cooling (450 W), either end-mounted fan (-EF option) or top-mounted fan (-TF option).

There is a choice of seven DC outputs (forced air/convection current rating): 12 V (37.5 A/20.5 A), 15 V (30 A/16.6 A), 19 V (23.7 A/13 A), 24 V (18.8 A/10.4 A), 36 V (12.5 A/6.9 A), 48 V (9.4 A/5.2 A), or 54 V (8.3 A/4.6 A) with no minimum load requirement. Each model also has an auxiliary 5 V_DC 1.0 A standby output with a 12 V_DC 0.6 A fan output available on the open frame and -C versions.

Earth leakage current is typically 80 µA/135 µA. High line efficiency is an impressive 95% with low line efficiency only 2% or 3% lower. Power density up to 21 W/in³. Remote on/off provides control of the main output and reduces the input power to 210 mW when inhibited. All models feature short circuit, overvoltage, overcurrent, and overtemperature protection.

All models have an input range of 90 V_AC to 264 V_AC with derating below 100 V_AC. Both line and neutral are protected by F8 A/250 V fuses. The operating temperature range is -20°C to +70°C with full power available from -20°C to +50°C. MTBF >300,000 hours (MIL-HDBK-217F, +25°C GB). The operating altitude is 5000 m for ITE, 4000 m for medical.

The input to output isolation is 4 kV_AC, input to ground is 1.5 kV_AC, and output to ground is 1.5 kV_AC. EMC standards include EN55011/32 Class B for conducted and radiated emissions and IEC60601-1-2 Ed.4.0:2014 for medical immunity as well as EN61204-3 for PSU immunity. Safety approvals include CB IEC60950-1 and IEC62368, UL/EN62368-1, CB IEC60601-1 Ed 3.1, ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1, and CSA22.2 No.60601-1:08 and TUV EN60601-1.

The open frame ECH450 measures 5.0” x 3.0” x 1.42” (127 mm x 76.2 mm x 36.1 mm) with a weight of 390 g. The enclosed version (-C) and the top fan version (-TF) both measure 5.0” x 3.41” x 1.97” (127 mm x 86.6 mm x 50 mm) with weights of 570 g for the -C and 585 g for the -TF. The end fan version (-EF) measures 5.83” x 3.15” x 1.6” (148.2 mm x 80 mm x 40.6 mm) and weighs 660 g.

With their compact dimensions, the ECH450 series achieves EN55011/32 Level B conducted emissions compliance while maintaining very low earth leakage currents, making them suitable for a wide range of healthcare, industrial, and IT applications.
