Murata’s unregulated low power DC/DC converters of less than 5W are available in a range of isolation voltages with single and dual outputs. The low parts count directly affects the calculated and demonstrated reliability. Typically, MTTF figures are in the millions of hours. As well, the simplicity of these units yields low unit costs. Many models are manufactured using ceramic rather than FR4 printed circuit boards as well as ceramic rather than tantalum capacitors. Ceramic printed circuit boards and capacitors will have very similar thermal expansion coefficients, creating a thermally stable product. Furthermore, as ceramic is a good heat conductor, heat is conducted away to the surface of the converter, avoiding thermal hot spots. Murata offers a choice of industry standard footprints in SIP and DIP packages with surface mount options. Their internal SMD construction is fully encapsulated using UL approved material and are capable of operating at full load over the wide industrial temperature ranges. UL recognized models are also available. Only RoHS compliant DC/DC converters are manufactured.
