Previously, all electronic connections were made with separate wires. Over time, the number and complexity of current automotive systems have made wire harnesses impractical. The solution was a simple 2 wire bus network. Each ECU is connected to the system bus and only responds to commands such as lights on, opening windows, or move seat forward when properly addressed. Today’s vehicles use several standard buses such as CAN, LIN and FlexRay. In order to transmit and receive commands on the bus each ECU must have dedicated transceivers. NXP provides transceivers for all the standard IVN bus protocols.
