New Product Discoveries - RECOM Power's Switching Regulator and Taiyo Yuden's Bluetooth 5.0 Module

New technology allows you to increase the functionality of your product while lowering production costs. Our purpose here at DigiKey is to stock the latest and greatest technology to support your journey to create the most modern, the most featured, and the lowest possible cost devices you can. Keeping that purpose in mind, the two products I have to showcase today could work together (in an IoT design for instance) or separately targeting any number of applications. Hopefully the brief overview I provide will spark an idea or push you to dig for more information on these and other products.

The first item I have today is from a well-known power supplier called RECOM. This step-up switching regulator (R-78S3.3-.01) will take an input voltage from a single AAA or coin cell battery (.65 V to 3.15 V) and output 3.3 V at around 100 mA with an efficiency of 93% at full load. As your battery output gradually declines, the step-up regulator keeps the output at a stable 3.3 V until passing the minimum input threshold of .65 V. This device is a perfect fit for battery powered IoT applications that require a stable 3.3 V output. Scott, one of our Applications Engineers, goes in to further details in his R-78S3.3-.01 blog post.

The last product I have today is a Bluetooth 5.0 module (EYSHSNZWZ) from Taiyo Yuden. This BLE module incorporates the Nordic Semiconductor nRF52832 Bluetooth Low Energy chip, an ARM Cortex M4F processor, and an integrated high performance PCB antenna in a single package. On top of its many features, this module is extremely small; so small, in fact, six can fit on the face of a dime. Its small size and low power requirements make it suitable for any “smart” application as well as heart rate, pressure, or blood glucose monitor applications—just to name a few. Scott's Bluetooth 5.0 blog post goes in to detail on the Taiyo Yuden module.

What interesting applications can you think of for these products? Let us know in the comments below. Thanks for watching!
