When selecting the correct motor for an application, the designer needs to first collect information on the appropriate performance required. The designer will need to select the type of actuator for the application, such as a belt pulley drive or ball screw. Then one will need to calculate the load torque and inertia load. Select the number of phases wanted for the motor, such as 2, 3, or 5-phase. Finally, confirm the motion profile to make initial selection.
