The device’s ultra-low noise of 25µVRMS across a wide bandwidth of 10Hz to 100kHz suits it for low-noise system rails. The device’s transient response for load current changes with rise/fall times of 1A over 200 nanoseconds is better than competing devices with rise/fall times of 1A per 1 microsecond (5x slower). This fast transient response lowers output capacitor requirements and saves cost. The ±1% accuracy over line, load and temperature is ideal for tightly regulated power rails. Good high-frequency PSRR of 55dB @ 200kHz and 30dB @ 2MHz is great for post-regulating switching regulators. Stability with low ESR ceramic capacitors down to a minimum of 15µF saves bulk capacitor cost and space. Internal protection includes UVLO, reverse-current protection, current limiting with power foldback and thermal shutdown. Finally, The LT3071 regulator is available in a thermally enhanced 28-lead, 4mm × 5mm QFN package.
