In summary, the LTC4000 is a high voltage, high current battery charging controller and power manager that forms a powerful battery charging and power management solution when combined with any externally compensated DC/DC converter. The key features include a wide input and output voltage range of 3V to 60V making the device multi-chemistry/stack compatible. An input ideal diode is included for low loss reverse blocking and load sharing, as well as an output ideal diode for low loss PowerPath™ control and load sharing with the battery. Another feature is instant-ON operation with a heavily discharged battery. The input and charge current output are programmable with an accuracy of ±1%, and float voltage programming is accurate to ±0.2% at room temperature and ±1% over temperature. Charge termination can be either programmable C/X or timer based. Also featured is an NTC input for temperature qualified charging using an NTC thermistor. The LTC4000 is available in a low profile 28-lead 4mm x 5mm QFN and SSOP packages.
