To address the need for high performance PLL frequency synthesizers, Analog Devices has developed the MAX2870. The MAX2870 is an ultra-wideband PLL frequency synthesizer with integrated VCO’s. The MAX2870 delivers contiguous output frequency from 23.5MHz to 6000MHz. The benefit of this feature is ultra-wideband frequency coverage. This enables the capability to generate an ultra-wide range of LO tuning frequencies. The MAX2870 exhibits a normalized in-band noise floor of -227dBc/Hz. The benefit of this feature is excellent Error Vector Magnitude performance, typically 0.35% at FOUT=2GHz. The MAX2870 supports both integer and fractional PLL modes. The fractional-n PLL benefits include fast lock time, on the order of 75 microseconds, and fine frequency tuning resolution down to the hundreds of hertz.
