In exercise equipment, the magnetoresistive sensor ICs, Nanopower Series, can be used in the several ways, including an emergency stop switch, in which the magnet is pulled if the user has an emergency and needs to stop the machine. They can be used to count revolutions to measure speed, and to determine incline position. For these applications design engineers require durability, so the parts do not break due to shake and vibration resulting in downtime to the machine. Also high sensitivity is needed for the emergency stop switch, as well as a temperature range of up to 85˚C (185 °F).
