Choosing the SM351LT over reed switches can be a smart choice. For the addition of very little power, 360 nA, it is more reliable and stable over temperature range, does not wear out over time, and has a higher quality and durability because, unlike the glass reed switch, the plastic molded sensor does not break. The SM351LT is equivalent to or more sensitive than reed switches, and it is smaller than equivalent reed switches, allowing for more compact design.
