The quantization process is the representation of the magnitude, in code form, of the continuous analog signal. The number of bits in the quantization process determines the number of discrete levels and, therefore, it determines the smallest resolvable signal. The ratio of this smallest signal level or least significant bit (LSB) to the largest reproducible signal (full-scale) defines the maximum achievable dynamic range.
